In the Sunday Star today, the headline "Little girl lost and found – thanks to our reporter" caught my eye. The article is about how a Star reporter who was looking for the venue for her assignment saw a 4-year-old by herself trying to cross the busy road and how she was helped by the reporter. I have questions:

1. Where was the little girl's kindergarten teacher? Her father was late only by 10 minutes.

2. Why was the little girl allowed out of the kindergarten compound? Why wasn't she supervised?

3. In reporting the story, why didn't the journalist find out what happened? Very obvious that someone neglected the child's safety.

4. Why hasn't any head roll?

5. Is the kindergarten getting off scot free??

The little girl is 4 years old, for chrissake.

The reporting was very strange. The reporter was a heroine for having spotted the kid? Hmm...

I can understand a set of spare clothes in the bag 'coz she's only 4. Sometimes, when kids get over excited, they forget to go to the toilet till it's too late. Were there more than one set?

So many questions! Aren't reporters supposed to get answers?

i think the star reported that the kid had several blouses and panties. i don't know how accurate that was. and won't it make some sense to have pants as well, if soiling was the concern? but there was no mention of that. maybe it's all our imagination and just a case of bad reporting, not enough details and details of the wrong kind.

my grouse with the whole incident is that the reporter or the politician or her aide should have enough sensitivity to end a parent's anguish by immediately bringing the child to the police station.
any parent who has lost their child for even a minute will be able to tell you how devastating it is to lose your child.
if they [the reporter and the politician] has other priorites, fair enough. but why can't they tumpang someone they trust to send the child to the police station asap?

and the reporter just doesn't get it. she thinks she did a heroic thing.

i really don't understand.

A lesson to learn. When you spot a lost child, try to hang around the place a little longer and not bring the child to somewhere-somewhere.
